Picture Books to Enjoy in November

A Season of Reading - Picture Books to Read in November

November is a wonderful time of the year. The beginnings of holidays. The changes of seasons. The perfect time to curl up and share a great book or two. The list below is some of our favorite picture books to enjoy in November.

Winter is Coming

Winter is Coming by Tony Johnson, illustrated by Jim LaMarche

Winter is Coming is a beautiful and quiet book. It follows a young girl as she watches the slow change from fall to winter. She sits with her sketchbook and observes the change in plants, weather and even the animals around her. A wonderful read-aloud for children who love nature.

Balloons over Broadway

Balloons Over Broadway by Mellissa Sweet

One of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions is watching the Macy’s parade. Our family grabs cinnamon rolls, sausage, and fruit and gathers round to watch together. Balloons over Broadway is the true story of the puppeteer Tony Sarg who came up with the first icon balloons of the parade.

Thankful

Thankful by Eileen Spinelli, illustrated by Archie Preston

Thankful is a fun, whimsical book that will become an instant classic in your house. Its rhythmic text is sure to draw listeners in and its story of being thankful for the things around you is perfect for readers of all ages.

The Apple Pie Tree

The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall, illustrated by Shari Halpern

We just discovered this book this year thanks to our school librarian! We read it together and Sterling loved watching the seasons change throughout the book. Apple pie is one of our favorite pies to have for Thanksgiving and this book is perfect to read before we start baking.

These are just a few picture books to enjoy in November. We will be adding to the list so make sure to check back for new ones. Share your favorites in the comments as we are always looking for new ones.
